Initial Thoughts

OK, so I know that ever since I launched BagTrends.com I’ve been all about giving love to the new designers. But, I was checking out the Neiman Marcus site and they have the YSL Muse bag – the it bag of the season – in yummy chocolate. Best of all, you can get the bag personalized with two initials for FREE. Well, let’s just say that it’s part of the $1,295 price tag.

So, is worth it? I mean I think it’s so chic (very Jackie-O) to have your initials on a bag. I’ll bet Demi Moore and Kate Moss, both of whom have toted this lovely number for months, have it engraved. Should I bite the bullet and get it? It’s my professional opinion that the Muse bag will become a classic – going down in fashion history just like the Hermes Birkin, the Louis Vuitton Speed 30, the twill and leather Gurka satchel and a Judith Leiber basic-black evening clutch.

The chocolate leather with tonal stitching, the golden hardware – it all oozes with Italian craftsmanship and overall elegance.

Every spring, fashion editors proclaim "nautical is in!" The stripes, the sailor hues- blue, white, red, black - and the anchor details come back every year. Let's just call it a perennial class and stop wasting ink.

Like a good pair of jeans that never go out of style - yes they exist - a nautical-themed bag can last numerous seasons. And, if paired with white pants and a blue top, a denim skirt and a striped top, a blue tank with jeans ... you get the picture ... the right sailor-inspired tote will keep you stylishly sailing through many springsational events.

I really like the mamie white Jay Bag. The canvas body is accented with blue patent leather trim and an antique gold anchor charm. The synched, drawstring closure creates a unique, guitar-like shape. In person, this tote is quite stunning. I love the functionality of the outside pockets and the removable anchor. Wear it as a charm for a head-to-toe nautical look.

I love this white silk clutch embroidered with coral beads. I must admit, before this weekend, I never heard of Isharya, but they make all sorts of great summer wraps and jewelry that you have to check out. Every piece has a Middle-Eastern-meets-Madison-Avenue sensibility.

This clutch will look perfect when paired with summer's must-have white linen dresses. It will give your outfit an added kick of color and make it more evening worthy.
$255

Side note: does the pattern remind you of any other fabulous fashion find?

Please don't pair the Isharya clutch with this Daine von Furstenberg dress -- too much of a good thing. This number requires a simple white clutch like this one from Ted Rossi. ($350)
