Crazy Sale at Saks, No Bags Remain Plus Christian Louboutin for $200: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

Sunday I went to Saks because of their crazy sale - 40% plus another 50% if you use your Saks card! My fiance and I only went because he wants a tux, but the Armani style he's been eyeing wasn't on sale. What's a gal to do? I checked out the contemporary floor and snagged amazing black Milly pants for $100 and a wonderfully draped Alice+Olivia skirt in a black/navy color for $80. Then, I ran into Lisa Bradkin, who used to curate the accessories presentation during New York Fashion Week before IMG viciously eliminated it. She told me her friend purchased four pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes for under $700. OMG! So, remembering I need wedding shoes, I sprinted to the 8th Floor only to find a line of nearly 100 women waiting to get into the pit of shoelicious sale heaven. My soon-to-be mother-in-law waiting in line with me and convinced me to stay for the full 30 minutes. Once inside, the madness went into over drive. Shoes all over the place. Sizes mixed up. Sales people running around in a sweat. Women purchased 5+ pairs. I went to my size and found a few goodies, but no wedding shoes. Then my soon-to-be mother-in-law found THEM. They were in size 8, sitting their unnoticed. They were a size 6 Christian Louboutin peep toe hidden platform pumps in rose gold. They are exactly what I wanted for my wedding. Something sexy, with a platform, 5 inches, not white, a hint of color, that I'll continue to wear. And ... $230. Amazing!! I still can't get over the rush of purchasing my very first pair of Louboutins. Some day I plan to own this exact model in every color imaginable. They are so comfortable and my legs look sick in them.

See what deals you can snag at Saks. Get up to 70% off through 12.07.08 during the Saks designer sale. Additional markdowns 11.27–11.28! Plus, free shipping on any order over $200 at Saks! Off valid 11.27.08 through 1:00 PM EST 11.28.08. Use code SAKSFS. Lot so sites/stores are having sales, but Saks' is the craziest. Trust me! I've been checking all the major department stores for weeks and know what they plan to mark down over the coming holiday season.

Have a bag-a-licious day!

Michelle Obama Purse-onal Panache by Pamela Pekerman: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

I was working on a segment pitch for CNN, but a million and one things got in the way - such a shame. So that my good thoughts -hehe - don’t go to waist, I decided to share them here with you. I’m of the belief that every woman has a Purse-onal PanacheTM, a handbag style that is uniquely suited to her. To decipher once Purse-onal PanacheTM you only need to examine your lifestyle, existing fashion choices, home decor, favorite colors, favorite icons/personalities and really uncover what you want to project to the world. After all it is the handbag, more than ANY other accessory or piece of clothing, which is seen the most and garners the attention.

Now, to Michelle Obama - who very well might become the next first lady in less that 12 hours. Based on what I’ve read about her, images in the media, interviews and other evidence, she is:
- on-the-go, focused, passionate and ambitious
- family centered AND career driven, she finds balance and doesn’t want to give up either
- isn’t afraid of trying new designers and embracing change
- enjoys fine brands, but can mix-it-up with some H&M
- loves a shift dress, more of a dress than suite gal in general
- enjoys unique colors, unconventional for many ladies on the trail (emerald green, plum)
What does this say about her political views and that of her husband, Barack Obama? That’s something I was doing to delve into on CNN, but for now her Purse-onal PanacheTM.

Based on the above observations, Michelle is a lover of TOTES. She wants something she can fit her files, maybe a laptop, a newspaper and her wallet (full of family images). The tote needs to have enough of a drop to fit over the shoulder (being on the go she needs options). Michelle would also need at least two pockets inside the bag (wallet/ keys/ makeup) and ideally one on the outside to have easy-access to her Blackberry. I would give her a new designer like m. Clifford Designs and recommend the Terrell Tote in grey or navy (both not your basic black, but still not too wild - she is a first lady, after all).

If I’m still up to it at midnight, once more states are called, I’ll do Purse-onal PanacheTM for Cindy McCain.

VOTE if you still have not and your polls are open !

Glam It Up for Levi's, How to Dress Up Jeans: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

The week before I left for HSN, which now seems like a million years ago but was really about 12 days ago, Glam.com invited me and Michelle to attend a fashion event at the Levi's store in Union Square. Being that I'm a denim idiot - i own about 3 pairs, all of which were gifts! - I thought it would be educational. Michelle, of course, showed up in vintage Levi's. I was there in my usual look of dress, stilettos and pashmina scarf. With a $100 gift card I really wanted to get a pair of jeans and the sales girls tried so hard. I tried on fabulous jeans including these Trouser Flare Jeans, mostly because they reminded me of pants. In the end I went with a cute cropped, sweater with one button closure that will look angelic over my dresses, and this skinny belt. I still have about $40 left on my card and I'm thinking I'll try something new. I'm going to buy those trouser jeans after all. It would be nice to at least have the option to wear them. Perhaps I'll pair the jeans with a black turtleneck, strands of pearls and a nice clutch -- chic, no?

Pamela Pekerman's Fall 2008 Handbag Trends For Less on AOL's Stylelist.com: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

Three postings in one day - quite a lot for me. Must be the crisp fall air that has given me a BURST of energy (or maybe it's that nice kiss I just got for from my fiance!) In any event, in case you missed it, take a look at my Fall Handbag Trends For Less report for AOL's Stylelist.com. I'm their go-to-gal for all things bags. Right now I'm wrapping up a celeb handbag story focusing on great work/day bags. And, yes, it will be for less. It's all about recession happy prices because even during these hard times we still want to look good and be in vogue.

Mary Norton's Spring Summer 2009 Bags and Shoes Preview: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

It was a crazy week of flying, handbags, and fun. Now that I’m back from Florida and well rested, I wanted to catch up and share thoughts on the many previews I’ve attended over the past week. On Tuesday I had the pleasure of checking out the Spring-Summer 2009 collections from two of my favorite lines - Mary Norton and MCM. Mary was first at 9am. I love coming in to see her (we get to see each other about four times a year in NY, though I’m forever promising to come by her shop and headquarters in South Carolina.) She’s a true lady, always prim and proper, well quaffed, tailored skirt. The first time we met, Mary’s left arm was in a sling – never has any woman looked chicer in a sling. “Chic in a Sling” – that should be a trend piece :) and we can see how many gals can really pull it off. But, I digress - as usual.

The Bags... The assortment of evening bags were phenomenal. The inspiration for spring is the five senses, and certainly all of mine were on overload. Of course SIGHT refers to all the bags (because, well, you can see them – ya not the best one). Then there was a group for TASTE, particularly influenced by candy. Cotton candy colors of fuchsia, yellow and orange or sky blue, lavender and white are found on Mary Norton’s signature feather bags. Jelly bean prints are found on small chain purses and shoes. (The jellies didn't gel with me - not my favorite grouping, to be honest). TOUCH is evoked in fun tassels, that Mary is now going to make a signature piece of her collection. There were tassels inspired by the empire state building, jelly beans and with feathers. For SOUND, 80’s disco balls and record-like print embroidery was used. Finally, my favorite group and inspiration was leather orchids which referenced SMELL. Take a look at the images, are they not to die for? Prices will kill you too, but this is the quality work produced in Italy and supervised by the marvelous Mary Norton herself. Enjoy the images below. And, let me know what you think. Oh and check out the newly revamped MaryNorton.com – they have ecommerce. You can also get Mary at Saks.com.

My next post will be about MCM ... stay tuned.
