Adventures at HSN, The Morning After: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

WOW WOW WOW. What a crazy weekend. For those who tuned in to HSN on Friday, thank you so much for your support. I was so excited that the Calla bags were received so well and thrilled HSN was able to make it a $49 Today Special. I truly thought it was a good deal - as I would never take on a project I didn't believe in. The Steal and Camel were my favorite colors, though sadly they did not read too well on film. The rose pink, which wasn't something I could ever wear, but I could see some people wearing in hot climates or maybe on vacation, was one of the best sellers.

Bags aside, I adored working with the designer Jenny. She's a doll. And, she had her family with her during some of the tapings. She has two of the cutest children - one 13-year-old girl that was beyond well behaved and poised and a little 1-year-old baby gal. Jenny and I had great chemistry and when we had hosts that loved bags as much as we did, it was a thrill to go on live. One of my favorite hosts was Callie Northagen. We had a blast backstage in the makeup room chatting about bags, fashion, her kids, Jenny's kids and my fiance. So many more stories to tell about sleep deprivation, loading up on chocolate, mid-day runs to the hotel for showers, backstage goofing off, dancing on the catwalk -yes I did it! .... maybe during the 4th of July break I'll have a minute to share some more fun stories and scoop. Right now I'm off to Philadelphia to do a beach bag trend segment for Your Morning, on the Comcast Network. Tune in at 7am!!

I do want to thank my friends at Tracy Reese for lending me the fabulous white and and grey dress with lace on top and pleating at the bottom, from the Plenty by Tracy Reese fall 2008 collection. I'm so buying this sample once the pr firm is done with it! I also did a little shopping at edressme.com - my go-to source for dresses - right before I left for Florida. For Melissa in North Carolina, in regards to your email, that amazing black dress I wore during my nighttime shows is from Tadashi. It does voodoo for all your curves. If you're hourglass, you have to own this dress. Trust me the model isn't working it as well as you will!

Oh, and one more "thank you" to the amazing staff at The Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park for being so warm and helpful during my morning runs to HSN and my odd requests for 2:40pm wakeup or 7:35pm dinner or 11:30am runs on their complimentary shuttle to Walmart to get a bikini so I could swim in their pool and relax after my 24-hour+ day was done. Bonus: I had this great view of the water, wooden bridges and a bell tower structure -- very tranquil. I highly recommend this hotel if you plan to be in the St. Petersburg, Florida area.

$49 Calla Concorde Satchel, HSN Today Special June 27th, Bag a Bargain: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

I just found out that the Calla Concorde satchel I'll be mentioning on HSN this coming Friday is not going to be $59.90 but $49.90. Super excited. This is really a fab deal and a way to get the look of crocodile at fraction of the cost - actually about 50 times less!! I've been rocking out the bag for about two weeks first in the camel and then in the steel. I also took the pink (they'll call it "rose" on the show) for a walk, playing it down with a black scarf. Rose isn't for everyone and I'm not usually into the look-at-me colors. If you are, this is perfect. Magenta and all kinds of deep pinks are going to be the surprise colors for fall. It's definitely more on the trendy side, but for $49 I think you can go trendy. However, the other four shades - black, steel, camel and bronze - are timeless. Steel by far is my favorite and I've had my grey and peach Rebecca Minkoff scarf accenting the satchel all week - got a huge compliment from a pr friend of mine who sees his share of fabulous merchandise.

Anywho, back to packing. My flight is tomorrow at noon and then I'm off to HSN off to the headquarters in Florida for a 930pm meeting with producers and then hair and makeup. The show starts at midnight. Wish me luck :).

Tune in Friday, June 27th at:
Midnight, 1am, 5am, 7am, 8am, 11am, noon, 4pm, 9pm, 10pm

Recession-Proof Handbag Picks with Bag Expert Pamela Pekerman, Maxx New York Fenway Bowler $87: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

It's Recession Thursday time - time to see what we can buy for our dollars. This week, I found the MAXX NEW YORK 'Fenway' Patent Bowler
iconin pink on sale at Nordstrom.com for $87. MAXX NEW YORK is always a good source for a affordable bags that are on trend. I've been using their classic Birdle in large as a travel bag for several seasons. I also have the same bag in a small version for daytime. The Fenway Bowler is a perfect work bag, with great structure and a fun - not terribly bright - pink finish. It holds all your necessities and then some. The shoulder strap drop could be a bit long, but you can get on the shoulder if you want. Of course, hand-held will look better. To down play the pink, try to tie a dark pashmina or silk scarf around one handle - works like a charm! Even if you're not pink all-year-around, for $87 you get a really reliable summer handbag option. Use for work, play, or even for as a small weekender bag.

Watch Handbag Expert Pam Pekerman June 27th on HSN with Calla Bags, Affordable Luxury, Under $60: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

I have very exciting news to share. As you may recall, last October I appeared on HSN, The Home Shopping Network, to discuss holiday trends and LUCE handbags. Well, tune in June 27th as I come in to chat up summer/early fall trends and CALLA Handbags.

CALLA is a new diffusion line from charm and luck designer Jenny Syquia. charm and luck is a huge celebrity favorite, as seen on Beyonce, Lindsey Lohan and others. CALLA, which stands for Charm And Luck Los Angeles, has similar style-conscious bagistas in mind. But, the best part about this brand is the pricing will not burst your wallet. Retailing from $60 to $110, CALLA is made from high-quality, man-made leather and animal embossed prints. On June 27th, I'll present present the CALLA Concorde Satchel as the ‘Today Special’ on HSN - times to be announced soon. The croco-embossed satchel will retail at the Today's Special price of $59.90. Color options will include camel, bronze, rose, steel and black.

I'm obsessing over the grayish/gunmetal color that they will be calling Steel. It's the perfect year-around color, and if you have enough black this is a really nice change without going too far away from your comfort zone. The other color that rocks my world is camel. In the croco material and gold hardware, the camel has a lux look at a fraction of the cost. If this bag were made in another material it would be about 50-100x more, depending on the designer. With all your savings you could go on one REALLY fabulous family vacation!

I hope you all tune in to HSN on June 27th and indulge in some affordable, bag-a-licious luxury. With gas hitting $5 a gallon, it doesn't mean you can't have your new bag! If you're not familiar with CALLA bags, you won't be sorry that you've taken a chance.

Oh and do call in to the show :). I can't wait to chat with you!

Recession-Proof Handbag Picks with Bag Expert Pamela Pekerman: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

Every morning I do my excising to CNN - yes I've been working out for about a month and it really is all it's cracked up to be in terms of energy level for the day!! Issue #1, the economy sucks. No, I didn't need talking heads to tell me that. I just need to look at the pump (about $4.40 per gallon in my area), or look at airline bills for all my recent work-related travels (hello $500 for Vegas!!), or just seeing how much leather, hardware and shipping costs have risen which in turn causes handbag prices to rise. So, I've decided to go budget conscious - at least on Thursdays :) - and highlight some of my favorite bags that are busting with style and not busting your wallet. Going forward, THURSDAY will be RECESSION PROOF HANDBAG PICKS.

This week, head over to shopbop.com and get the Marc by Marc Jacobs Big Standard Supply Tote $74. This spacious canvas style is a great beach bag and weekender option. It has tons of pockets for in the bag beach essentials like SPF lotions, magazines/books, towels and a second bikini. For evenings, switch into this fun turquoise beaded clutch from Trina Turk $80, available at SHOPBagTrends.com. The bamboo handle detailing is really fun and a great interpretations of the global trend. Plus, buy this clutch and get another bag for 30% OFF.

Sex and The City Handbags, Yellow Castro & Pollux Clutch: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

In the opening scene of Sex and The City, Carrie wears a white and gold dress accented by a VERY large flower - we've all scene this picture floating around the Internet for months. I've been trying to identify the yellow wallet/clutch Carrie carries - I even spoke to NewLine and Patricia Feild's assistant. Well, my darling assistant Paula has identified that bag. It's from Castro & Pollux and retails for $145. I can't say it's terribly exciting; just a nice bold colored wallet finished in fine leather that can hold a slim cellphone and lipstick. For those who want a little bit of SATC style do indulge.

Rebecca Minkoff Market Bag in Sex and The City Movie, BagTrends.com EXCLUSIVE: BAGTRENDS

Dear Bagistas,

Did you not love the movie? Never mind the obvious product placements - did you catch the Gucci I Love New York bag standing at eye level for all to see?!? The plot, the girls and the fashion was divine. I kept my eyes pealed to see who was wearing what and to my delight I spotted the Rebecca Minkoff Market bag in yellow on Samantha, aka Kim Cattrall. It's in the Mexico vacation scene when they just arrive at the Honeymoon destination. It was a split second, but I was just sure that it was a Rebecca Minkoff.

The next day I called Rebecca to see if she new about this and then we both investigated the matter to in fact confirm that YES the lovely Rebecca Minkoff was included in the bevy of beautiful bags (Leiber, Stuart Weitzman, Alina, Escada, Hollywood, Fendi, Chanel ...) worn in the Sex and The City movie.

Congrats Rebecca. I'm sure there will be a waitlist for the Market Bag in yellow. If you want to purchase it, need details, etc just email info@bagtrends.com.
