Mystery Monday, Accent a Room with Books: PAMELA PEKERMAN

I recently picked up a copy of Fifty Bags That Changed the World from HomeGoods for $3.99, as compared to the $20 I’d pay at a regular book store. After reading though most of it this weekend, I carefully layered the book, fan style, on top of three others on my living room coffee table. I, like many, treat books not only as a source of information, but as decorative accents for a table, shelves, an empty wall, etc. Styling with books normally works best with hardcovers, but those can get a bit costly. For affordable options, visit my beloved HomeGoods, check out the sale racks at Barnes & Noble (maybe you wouldn’t buy a book about the moon for $75, but for $20 you can mull it over), also many street vendors sell unique finds for several dollars (if you don’t mind pre-used goods). Ideally, you’re buying something you actually want to read – such a novel idea, right!? But, also consider colors and look for various heights and thicknesses. One thing I love to do is take a plain white wall, mount some ornate white shelves and add color via books. Have some books standing up and others lying flat. Use shoes, candles or mirrored box as book ends for a unique twist.

Travel Thursday, Chick On The Go: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Thanksgiving is two weeks away, which means many of you will be hitting the road or the sky to get stuffed with mom’s yummy stuffing and turkey! If packing stresses you out, you’ll love Chick on the Go, a convenient wardrobe in a bag with five pieces of black and white clothing and two sashes. The clothing items – black wide leg pant, black slip dress, white long sleeve V- neck shirt, white tank top, and a black poncho –combine to create a minimum of 25 looks. I’ve tested it – it’s true! My favorite ensemble is the pants combined with the poncho worn as a one shoulder top. If you’re not into the whole black and white look, pack a few colorful accents from ColourMe.com, where all accessories are merchandise by color!

Chick on the Go costs $289, which comes out to be under $12 per look – and that’s only if you use the 25 suggested looks from the brand’s website. Ridiculous, right? This gets my craz-E town amazing stamp of approval!

Handbag Humpday, Yadouga Bags Launch Spring 2012: PAMELA PEKERMAN

She’s the cool girl with the effortlessly put together ensemble and those perfect accessories you would never have thought to combine. She’s clever, creative and colorful. To me, SHE is Kirsten Yadouga Schwinn, the designer behind what will be the handbag markets next name-to-know – Yadouga. Yadouga is an assortment of handbags and accessories that exude boho luxury, or as Kirsten calls it “un-done luxury”. Think 70s glamour, a la Bianca Jagger and Jerry Hall. The Italian leather, impeccable craftsmanship and attention to real-world wearability is what I would expect from a designer whose pedigree includes stints at Versace and Reed Krakoff.

For those who may not recall, I drooled over Kirsten’s accessory style in a recent post about her love affair with cobalt blue, specifically her YSL ring. You’ll see the ring and color pop up in Yadouga's Spring 2012 lookbook.

Treasure Tuesday, LAGOS Spring 2012 Collection: PAMELA PEKERMAN

I love caviar – what Russian gal doesn’t? Those little fish eggs do wonders in my belly. Place them in a homemade blitz and you have the makings for the best breakfast ever. Turns out, I also like caviar in my jewelry, as well. Below is a sneak peak at LAGOS’ spring 2012 jewelry collection, featuring their signature silver caviar beading and some caviar-like bubbles in natural turquoise, black onyx and white mother of pearl. The later are from the love me, love me not group which embodies the essence of spring – the joy of blossoming flowers, blue skies with cotton candy clouds, and playfulness. Can you tell I’m already over winter? Until spring comes, I’ll just have to enjoy the thought of warmer days to come via these treasures from LAGOS.

Treasure Tuesday, Whiting & Davis Jewelry Collection: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Whiting & Davis is as American as apple pie, and now well into their second century, the 135-year-old brand is going back to its roots and re-launching a jewelry collection. Industrial, sleek and modern, despite having signature styles that predate the computer, gasoline cars and Madonna, the collection will appeal to minimalists and glamour gals alike. Whiting & Davis  mesh tear drop earnings (silver $175, gold $750) picture below at center, for example, can be your go-to all year long, from accenting a little black dress and sky-high pumps, to playing up jeans, a grey turtleneck and willies.

Handbag Humpday, Leopard Bags Be&D Kitty Satchel and DVF Tonda Clutch: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Calling all leopard lovers and ladies looking to get wild this season! If you jumped into the animal print trend last year, hold on with all claws. Leopards still rule the racks and these bags prove it. For day, BE & D Kitty Satchel ($1,150) is dark and sophisticated. Pair with the season's go-to coverup, a caplet, in tan or black like this winner from Lord & Taylor. For night, hold on to Diane von Furstenberg Tonda Printed Haircalf Clutch($495) when you're on the prowl for your next conquest ... on the dance floor, of course! I'm a PG13 kind of gal. The sculptured branch clasp on the clutch adds a rustic touch. If you're looking for a budget-friendly option try Mossimo Supply Co. Leopard Top Handle Handbag ($22) from Target.
1. DVF Tonda Clutch. 2. Be&D Kitty Satchel. 3. Mossimo for Target Top Handle.

Are you a leopard lover? I'm new to this print, but finally went for the plunge last year with two tops from H&M and now I'm thinking of getting the DVF clutch, an ideal mate for my countless little black and little nude dresses. Small doses offset with neutrals. That's the only way I can do this look What about you?

Treasure Tuesday, Fortunoff Fine Jewelry Black Quartz & Diamond Drop Earrings: PAMELA PEKERMAN

When you’re a little girl growing up in Brooklyn and you think of your special day, you dream of the dress (will it be lace or lots of tulle), you ponder about the venue (sleek in the city or major in Jersey) … But, one thing was always certain - you register at Fortunoff! So, you can imagine my dismay when weeks before I needed to register, Fortunoff was no more. Oye, the hutzpah! Well, that iconic brand is back doing what they always did best – fine jewelry. Fortunoff Fine Jewelry is online and will soon have brick and mortar stores. Today, I found these beauties Black Rutilated Quartz and Diamond Drop Earring ($950) set in 14K gold. The organic shape and look is a key trend we’ll be seeing a lot in holiday 2011 and going forward into 2012. Textured stones that look like they just came out of the ground is the next big thing in jewelry. But, of course, the team at Fortunoff knows that. This Brooklyn-born gal is very happy to know a retail legend has been resurrected.

Do you have memories of Fortunoff? Share them below or tweet me @PamelaPekerman.

Travel Thursday, Amalfi Coast Beauty Travel Essentials: PAMELA PEKERMAN

I’m off to the Amalfi Coast in one week and it’s time to edit my must-have toiletries. Being in the sun, I want to make sure I’m protected outside and refreshed once I get back to my hotel. For the face, AMOREPACIFIC Natural Protector SPF 30 ensures I’m keeping my youthful skin intact – there’s a reason why my mother, who’s in her late 50s, pass for early 40s. Love your skin – crocodile skin is only chic when it’s a crocodile skin bag! Now, I don’t want to neglect luscious lips, so I’ll be using Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipgloss in Pink Remedy which has SPF15. No other makeup is needed – well, maybe a little mascara. And when the day is done, I plan to wipe away the makeup and lotion with Biore’s delicate Towelettes. I hate traveling with too many bottles, so the neat towelettes pack is idea. Positano and Sorrento, here I come!

What’s your go-to beauty essential when traveling to a hot climate?

Travel Thursday, Theodora & Callum Navajo Blanket Scarf: PAMELA PEKERMAN

My normal travel uniform is all white – white linen pants with a white tank top or white velour palazzo pants with a white turtleneck, depending on the season and final destination. The pop of color comes from a scarf, which often doubles as a blanket. Theodora & Callum Navajo Blanket Scarf ($175) says it all in the name – they get my jet-set style. The print is on-trend, bold and certain to nab panache cred with the frequent-flyer fashion club.

What's your travel uniform? Are you cool and casual or hot in heels?

PS For a warmer pashmina scarf, head over to 5th Avenue or Broadway in the 20s. Street vendors have TONS of colors at around $10 each. If you're not from NYC, check out off-price retailers like Marshalls and T.J. Maxx for affordable, brand name and stylish scarves.

Treasure Tuesday, Dannijo Lislia Necklace: PAMELA PEKERMAN

I'm joining a tribe. The tribe of DANNIJO, two phenom, femtrepreneurs who also happen to be sisters. Did you hear that MichelleDANNIJO's Lislia Necklace is right on trend with fall's Native American vibe, but with an industrial twist. Part of me thinks, I can make that! The other part of me knows that the piece is sculpted to perfection with proper juxtaposition of stones, crystal and metal thanks to Danielle and Jodie Snyder's artistic eyes. All of me is certain I must have it! I can already see this in the fall over my beloved black H&M turtlenecks.

Would you wear this necklace? Are you a fan of DANNIJO? Share your thoughts below.

Mystery Monday, 20x200 Affordable Art, Eccentric Glamour by Simon Doonan: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Once a room is complete with all the essentials – flooring, lighting, paint/wallpaper, moldings – and major furniture is in place, it’s time to accessorize the walls. That time has arrived at the P2 offices. After nearly nine months (my gosh, I given birth to a room!) of decorated, I’ve finally committed to some art work and several strategically placed mirrors. The later, a rectangular pink framed mirror and a massive, wooden starburst mirror, came from HomeGoods. Total damage: $129. As for the art work, I also wanted to stick to a budget, which is why I turned to 20x200. Whether your aesthetic is modern, classic, edgy or abstract, 20x200 is the site to go to for art prints. For $50, I received a limited-edition, museum quality piece created by Simon Doonan. Eccentric Glamour has the pop and whimsy I sought, to complete the wall right in front of my desk.

What walls need a little accent in your home of office? Shop by style, color, artist and price at 20x200. And, don’t forget to leave a comment sharing your favorite print.

Also, tune into BETTER TV on August 15th to watch me discuss 200x20 and other campus essentials every dorm room and college student needs!

Footwear Friday, Franco Sarto Imply Boot: PAMELA PEKERMAN

The perfect fall boot has arrived and it’s from Franco Sarto, a company known for impeccable comfort. The Franco Sarto Imply boots ($199) have a hidden wedge, so you get a bit of a boost, but with plenty of ease on your back. The side buckles give the boot a utilitarian feel, and I love the full length side zipper for easy wear. For fall's heritage look, pair it with jeggings, a simple white long sleeve shirt (snag one from H&M for $12) and a houndstooth or plaid print cape.

Are you bootilicios all season long? What's your take on boots during the summer. Leave a comment below.

Travel Thursday, Travalo Perfume Atomizers: PAMELA PEKERMAN

For the savvy traveler who wants to avoid long lines and fly solely with a carryon, taking a bottle of perfume can be a predicament. Not every brand produces 3oz bottles. And, besides, do you want to spend money on another bottle of perfume? Some of us change our scent like we change our shoes! Why bother with another bottle?! Travalo Perfume Atomizers ($15.99) solve all these problems. The pocket-size, refillable atomizer bottles can be filled with your favorite (of the moment!) perfume in a matter of seconds. Simply remove the nozzle from your fragrance bottle, pump Travalo up and down on the tube, and you’re set. When scent is scarce, Travalo has an integrated fill level indicator window to show how much fragrance you have left. My only warning: don’t present this to your mother outside of Lincoln Center before walking in to see a ballet. Those around you may perceive this little bullet as … Ya, that was awkward.
PS I’ve been using my Travalo Perfume Atomizers for the daily travels and trials of being in humid NYC. A little mid-day sprits goes a long way. I’m sure my fellow urbanites understand and appreciate the gesture.

Treasure Tuesday, Kara Ross Triple Gemstone Sugarloaf Ring in Lapis: PAMELA PEKERMAN

The other week, I had a delicious lunch at Zengo with Kirsten Yadouga, a talented handbag designer who has worked with Juicy Couture and Reed Krakoff, to name a few. (She’s actually launching her own sleek and luxurious collection this year, which I’ll certainly share with all of you bagistas when I get the OK). While catching up over tuna tacos and duck rolls, my eyes were glued to Kristen’s craz-e town, lapis blue YSL ring. As you know, coral is my signature shade, but I couldn’t get that ring our of my mind! Ladies – and gents – I’ve been gone loco for lapis! So, when Kara Ross sent over some jewelry samples for a client I’m styling, and they include the Triple Gemstone Sugarloaf Ring ($265), it was fate. In addition to having the coveted lapis stone, the three-stones across hits on the wide-ring trend.
Kara Ross, Triple Gemstone Sugarloaf Ring.

Are you in love with lapis? Did you know ancient Egyptians wore lapis lazuli jewelry? Hey, if it was good enough for Cleopatra …

Mystery Monday, Etsy Gypsy Crochet Glass Crochet Necklace: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Keeping the knitting theme going, today’s Mystery Monday spotlight goes to Gypsy Crochet, a vendor on Etsy.com -- my latest resource for unique accessories! Gypsy Crochet uses natural stone and glass, and crochets around the rocks to create statement necklaces and rings. This teal bib necklace has my name written all over it. Plus, what I love about this vendor, and many of the artists on Etsy, is they package their merchandise with love. The wrapping pager, the feathered yarn, the vintage cigarette cases, the matching stuffing paper, it was so much fun unwrapping all the Etsy goodies last week, for today’s PIX11 segment.

Are you a fan of Etsy? What’s your favorite shop? Share your thoughts and who knows, maybe you'll win something from your favorite Etsy vendor!
