Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a special event at the Lulu Guinness boutique in the West Village. The event was in honor of Ms. Guinness' collaboration with decoupage artist John Derian on a line from her Autumn 2006 collection. Lulu Guinness' whimsy mixed with Derian's love of layering, resulting in the Friendship, Love and Truth line of black bags with printed or embroidered eyes, flowers and words. It was the "marrying of Lulu's classic shapes like the frame purse or the Felicity clutch with John's designs," says Brie Cross, the new US PR coordinator for Lulu Guinness.
Looking ever so chic herself in an 80's outfit done right (loved the bangs, leggings and flats) Brie revealed her favorite bag from the collection - the Friendship, Love and Truth Felicity clutch. It's a black satin envelop clutch, with a fold-over closing and a cute coin purse inside. "It has embroidery inside that reads 'I have my eye on you' which is very Lulu and also picks up on her eye theme which was part of the overall Fall/Winter collection." Overall, Brie says "it's classic but fun and a little bit of color without being overpowering."
Artist, John Derian was also on hand and he revealed that another collaboration would be welcomed. As for the current bags, "I like the printed bags versus the embroidered because it's closer to my actual work, but the embroidery are still beautiful." Check out John's store when you're in NY (6 East Second Street) or log onto his site www.johnderian.com
PS Next week, I'll get a sneak peek of the Spring/Summer 2007 collection. Details and images to follow!!
