Footwear Friday, Lisa for Donald J Pliner Idas Boots: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

It’s Friday, and in addition to being Follow Friday (on twitter) it’s Footwear Friday!!! Where are all my shoe divas?!?

Lisa for Donald J Pliner Ink Sandal (L) spring11, Idas Boots (R) fall10.
Today, I’m mad for this fierce, over-the-knee boot from Lisa Pliner for Donald J Pliner. Lisa, Donald’s wife and muse, has launched her own collection of trend-forward shoes that appeal to a younger demographic – check, that’s me! Best part, she’s working with the same mission of comfort that we’ve all come to love form DJP – and something I’m really seeking following a not-so-pleasant car accent earlier in the month. I’m crazy town, obsessed with these way over-the-knee boots with Lisa’s signature green souls and tractor bottom ($375).

Spring 2011 is going to be Lisa for Donald Pliners first, fully developed collection, so I’m sharing a sneak peak of Ink – the edgy girls answer to boring bridal shoes! This shoe happens to be Lisa’s pick for spring, as she told me “it's the kind of shoe that if asked, a woman might struggle to name three outfits she wears them with -- but it's that shoe women will build an outfit around.” Guess who’s placing her order already with the showroom? You should join me!

For more of my interview with Lisa and a full review of Donald J Pliner’s spring 2011 collection, check out my story on AOL’s StyleList.com

Travel Thursday, Tili Reusable Zip & Seal Bags: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

Tili zip & seal reusable bags.
Packing can be a daunting task; trust me, I’ve done quite a bit of traveling this year. To make the packing and unpacking easier, I like to place similar items into individual plastic bags. Usually, I’ll reuse the bags I get from the dry-cleaning of my sweaters, or take a large Ziploc bag. Now, I’ve found something even better – Tili.

Tili is a fashionable gal’s response to boring Ziploc bags, a line of reusable zip & seal pouches that come in festive colors and patters. Each Tili (Take It or Leave It) bag has a window where you can write down the contents of each pouch. I’ve use mine for undies, toiletries, t-shirts and bikinis, but the possibilities are endless.

A box of 12 large Tili bags is $8.49, while the smaller size is $7.49.

How will you use your Tili? I’d love to know!

Handbag Humpday, Bryna Nicole Hermann School Bag: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

Bryna Nicole's Hermman School Bag in Campero

It’s time to go back to school – or at least look like you are on your way to campus! Backpacks are coming back in a big, adult-chic way. I was hoping retailers would get behind this silhouette this fall, but I think it will start to gain traction spring 2011 – with a huge peak the following fall.

Leading the pack for spring will be Bryna Nicole’s Hermann School Bag. This multi-wear flap-over handbag can we worn as a tote, messenger or on the back. The size is quite substantial for anyone who needs to carry a laptop, files or textbooks. However, it’s not overpower even on my five-foot-frame. I fell in love with Hermann at a trade show in September and he’s been on my mind ever since! The image below is the lovely Bryna Nicole McMills herself modeling the bag. FYI This gal is cute as a button and tall as a totem poll. I need my massive Louboutins to just attempt to reach her breathing altitude, but I digress.

Designer Bryna of Bryna Nicole Handbags models her spring 2011 Hermann School Bag
The Hermann School Bag will be available in tumbled lamb in olive, grey, black, and cognac and a distressed/cracked black or white leather. The latter has an antique look, but I’m in favor of the soft and supple lamb. To pre-order visit BrynaNicole.com.

Treasure Tuesday, Ann Taylor Statement Tassel Necklace: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

Several weeks ago, Ann Taylor presented their spring 2011 collection atop the Gramercy Park Hotel. The star-studded affair was attended by Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Palermo, and Fernanda Motta.

Ann Taylor's Statement Tassel Necklace, Spring 2011. Photo: Ann Taylor.
As a first generation American, my mother always taught me the value of having less, but always having the best that you could afford. As such, I remember her purchasing many a career-wear pieces from Ann Taylor, usually at wonderful sale prices. Many of these pieces are still in her arsenal of count-on-me staples.

While Ann Taylor is still a go-to for quality day-to-night attire, I’m particularly impressed with their baubles. The brand’s accessory design team has done a wonderful job of crafting stand-out costume jewelry even I would purchase. (I say that because I have an under $40 costume jewelry rule; I normally can not justify paying hundreds of dollars for jewelry that isn’t made of gold or platinum with precious or semi-precious stones.) However, I’m quite smitten with Ann Taylor’s Statement Tassel Necklace, which hits stores this spring and will retail for $68. The burnished metal finish has an antique finish, and with just a few crystals around the rim of the tassel head, the minimal look blends well with any top or dress. If I didn’t get this in my swag bag at the preview, I’d certainly be anxious to purchase it once it hits stores. Trust me, you will not be sorry with this piece!

If you can’t wait until spring, their a plenty of party perfect gems for holiday dressing on AnnTaylor.com, including the Pearl Cluster Drop Earrings ($38) and the Winter Ball Necklace ($88).

Mystery Monday, Glam Rock Watches Customized Luxury: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

I haven’t worn a watch in nearly five years and the last one I took off was Cacharel with a gorgeous pearlized blue face with diamonds at every quarter of the clock. I’m just not a fan of occupying a wrist with a time keeper, when I could cover it in a killer Ted Rossi cuff or some over-the-top jeweled bracelet. But, that all changed a few weeks ago when I won a custom-designed watch Glam Rock courtesy of my friends at The Promo Factory.

When the current season of Dancing With The Stars kicked off, I was invited by The Promo Factory to a viewing party of the show and a preview of Glam Rock watches, which had been gifted to many of the cast members. Guests at the event were treated to wine, friendly socializing and the chance to design a watch from countless dials, straps and case covers. The two people who designed the best looks, as judged by the stylish Dawn del Russo, would win the watches they created.

After much back and forth, I settled on a beige alligator case cover, a brown satin strap, and a dial with rose gold – I’m mad for rose gold! The following day I learned of my winnings – and I must say editors are jaded since we get so much for free, but I was over-the-moon.
(L) Glam Rock watch I designer. (R) Glam Rock watch from Palm Beach collection.

Glam Rock watches from Miami collection.
Glam Rock, launched in Miami in 2005, is a completely customizable line of watches hand crafted in France utilizing the finest leather including genuine alligator, lizard and python, with diamonds, cabochons and semi-precious stones. Not just flash, these watches are quite comfortable thanks to a curved, ergonomic case that grants the wrist ease of motion. Last, but not least, nestled in the heart of the solid stainless steel case, is the Swiss-made movement.

This glamor will cost you. The version I designed is about $1500! Additional straps and case covers start at $55 for synthetic straps and go up to $1950 for a diamond case cover.

It’s time to start saving!

Handbag Giveaway, Win LaLucca's Mihoko Satchel: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

What a crazy few weeks – fashion week, market appointments, trade shows, plenty of broadcasting segments and some MAJOR meetings that could change everything in “my bag-a-licious life”. I know you’ve been asking about those twitter giveaways and I’m not going to slack off any more. We are going back to our regular, biweekly giveaways and I’m thrilled to kick it off with my friends Alex and Laura of LaLucca. With holiday travel season right around the corner – I know, can you believe it? – a stylish carry-on is in order. LaLucca’s Mihoko Satchel is extra, extra large so you will be able to fit all your on-plane essentials. The handbag has a detachable leather strap, which I like to use as a belt – recessionistas must think outside the box! – plus movement and surface treatment vis-à-vis ruffles. There’s something about the way this bag looks – and most of LaLucca’s bags look, for that matter – that screams samba, musica, Latin energy and Miami. Don’t you think? In such trying times, it’s nice to get a smile on your face from a bold color and some leather ruffles. That’s my version of smelling the roses!

Meet Joy Mangano, HSN Superstar and Power Woman: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Joy Mangano and Pamela Pekerman at Joy's 10th Anniversary
with HSN press preview
Dear Bagistas,

In addition to Jennifer Lopez, Karen Robinovitz, Kelly Ripa and Kathryn Finney, I officialyl have a new female power woman to lust after and admire in a totally professional way – Joy Mangano.

If that name doesn’t ring a bell, you clearly don’t watch enough HSN. If you did, you would have seen Joy selling her wares, which include Huggable Hangers, velvety hangers that are lightweight, ultra-thin, and the #1 selling product in the history of HSN or Clothes It All Luxury Carry All Luggage Set which lets you turn your roller into a portable closet with drawers. And then of course, you can catch Joy cooking up a storm with cutie-pie chef Todd English using their revolutionary GreenPan collection that uses Thermolon non-stick technology – the first completely PTFE-free (look that stuff up, it’s nasty!) non-stick cookware.

Although I’ve worked on HSN in the past, I never had the pleasure of meeting Joy, so I was thrilled to have her personally present her best selling, and soon-to-be best selling, inventions at a press presentation held at the Buckingham Hotel.

Joy Mangano showcases her Clothes It All Luxury Carry All Luggage
available at HSN
I had a 10am appointment and greeting me was this diminutive – in size but NOT in energy or presence – woman dressed in a sleek black pencil skirt and draped red blouse, with perfectly quaffed hair and a French manicure. Boy was I glad for my emergency, AM hair blowout! But, from our 45 minute appointment (which I actually thought would be 15-20 minutes) I learned Joy isn’t just a pretty face pedaling products. She is woman who, as HSN’s executive vice president Bill Brand puts it, “solves simple problem.” She reacts to her ahhhaaa moments, rather than sit on the sidelines and let others come up with the same concept. I love that!

Ladies, we should all try to channel a little big of Joy’s joy – love what we do, follow thru with our convictions, believe in ourselves and know our business inside and out. Yes, that last one is important! Don’t just be the face of something. Don’t just answer phones. Don’t just file tax papers. Don’t just go through the motions. To move up in life – even if you don’t plan to have your own company – it’s important to know the ins and outs of the field you are in. The important people will notice – trust me. When I was in college applying for magazine jobs, I used to review changes in the mastheads. I knew all the editors and their assistants – and last stories they worked on – as well as who owned what magazine and how they acquired it!

For more on Joy Mangano and her products, check out HSN.com.

Trying Blue Print Cleanse, Day 1 Juice 1: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

A few months ago, while attending a twitter party at Robert Verdi's house, I was gifted a three day trial for a Blue Print Cleanse. I'm not a detoxing/ juice cleansing kind of gal, but the sample juice I tried (I believe it was Green Apple) truly tasted yummy. Last week, I finally ordered my three day cleanse at Level 1, Renovation - there are three levels depending on your experience cleansing and eating raw foods. The ordering process was simple and I saved $50 on shipping by picking it up from Exhale Spa on Central Park South (OK, actually I sent my husband to do that part). There are tons of convenient locations in the city to pick up your juices, which are heavy so be prepared, and come with ice packs and a little lunch bag for cleansing on-the-go! If I were to pay for this cleanse it would be about $180. Fortunately, I get to test it out for free and then let you know if it's worth the bucks.

DAY 1 JUICE 1
I'm on "Renovation" so I get more fruity versus green juices. However, the first bottle is green - Green Lemon, to be exact. It's comprised of Romaine, Celery, Cucumber, Green apple, Spinach, Parsley and Lemon. I've been drinking for about 15 minutes and it's not going well. You should see my face! I can't deal with the tangy flavour combo, but I'm forging ahead. It is the first drink, after all. The goal is to finish this sucker in the next 20 minutes.
Benefits to keep me motivated: Lemon - contains unique flavanoid compounds that have antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. High in Vitamin C, promotes a healthy immune system.

Have you tried BP Cleanse? How did it go? Have you ever been on any cleansing program?

Have a bag-a-licious day!

Win It, LOGO by Lori Goldstein on QVC Multiflap Handbag: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

Faux Leather Multi Flap Handbag, LOGO by Lori Goldstein. Photo: Vinne Merlot
If you are a serious fashion lover – meticulously dissecting the pages of VOGUE, glued to the best blogs for quick 411 during Fashion Week, planning our outfits in advances with accessories in mind – they you probably have come across the name Lori Goldstein. Lori is an iconic stylistic with twenty years of experience, who is constantly in demand for fashion shows, magazine shoots, advertising campaigns and more. She regularly styles shows for Vera Wang, Nina Ricci, Carolina Herrera and TSE, and has acted as creative consultant and stylist for numerous celebrities including Madonna, Demi Moore, Julianne Moore and Anne Hathaway. Lori also designs a line for QVC called LOGO by Lori Goldstein and tonight she’s debuting a great handbag that retails under $75. (You knew the bag hook was coming, I’m sure.) Buying this handbag is like getting Lori’s personal stamp of approval. Who wouldn’t want a legendary stylist to say they look good? This multi compartments bag has a three layer flap with plenty of pockets and is constructed from faux snake skin and PVC – translation: scuff proof! Best of all – aside from the price – is the versatility of wearing the bag cross body, ultra long to one side or as a traditional purse simply by adjusting the shoulder strap. Given my diminutive height, I’ll be sporting this style at a shorter shoulder strap length.

Share Your Thoughts: Do you love this bag? Yah or Nah? Are you a QVC addict? Have you shopped LOGO by Lori Goldstein in the past?
Leave a comment and one lucky WINNER WILL WIN THIS BAG!

Eventually Getting to Columbus Ohio for FOX TV Dorm Room Decor Segment: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

After an atrocious experience at Delta’s Terminal 3 at JFK Airport – virtually no AC, a maze of poorly made tubes leading up to my plane followed by a run in the pouring rain to actually get onto the plane, then a 1.5hr wait to get off the ground – I’m finally enjoying some R&R at my hotel in Columbus, OH – this after going to the wrong hotel first!

In case you missed my tweet from the other day, I’ll be on FOX channel 28 in Columbus, Ohio tomorrow morning to discuss dorm room décor and accessories. Whether you’re off to campus for the first time or you left the nest several years ago, it’s always fun to get new bedding, pillows, bath accessories and other accoutrements to liven up your living space. Let’s face it, most dorm rooms leave much to be desired. But, with a little style guidance and some time at off-price retailers like Marshalls, you can have a slamming bedroom on a budget! Here’s a sneak peak at some of the items I’ll be featuring tomorrow. Don’t you just love this black pencil case? It has that mod, Jonathan Adler look, but at a fraction of the cost - $3.99 from TJ Maxx. I’m also into this preppy, lamp that’s $29.99 at Marshalls. I wouldn’t put it in my current bedroom, but it would be fun for the office or a daughter’s room.

If you are in the Columbus, OH area, please tune in tomorrow to FOX 28 WTTE around 8:20am-9:00am for my segment. I’ll also be tweeting as we set up the merchandise and go LIVE! Follow me: www.twitter.com/pamelapekerman

Meet Engie Hassan, Designer, Stylist, Bergdorf Goodman Personal Shopper: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

It’s been a long and inspiring day. What a way to jump back into the work week after a vacation! Before I call it a day, I want to introduce you to a very exciting gal who is one of my Power Women – the ladies that give me the mojo to keep pushing and growing my business. Her name is Engie Hassan and we met about two years ago at an event hosted by another power woman, Kathryn Finney aka The Budget Fashionista. Engie approached me as I was getting some wine. I can’t recall what we talked about in that brief, first encounter, but I can recount her immaculate ensemble and infectious energy. “This girl was going places,” I thought.

Fast forward two years and Engie has gone from Vogue staffer to personal shopper at Bergdorf Goodman and the Pierre Hotel to image consultant to stylist for celebrities and royalty. Last month, Engie realized yet another dream when she launched her premier fashion collection, “Rouge et Noir,” as part of “Once Upon A Time,” a fashion presentation to benefit the New York Restoration Project’s MillionTreesNYC initiative. As Engie puts it, “My collection is inspired by the modest, classical style of the stars and starlets of the bygone Golden age of Hollywood.” As a lover of sensuality over sexually and classical versus trend chaser, I happily co-chaired Engie’s event. Below are some sketches of her first collection. I can’t wait to see what future season’s have in store as this multi-talented stylist and designer tweaks and toils away. And, Engie, I will take you up on the offer of borrowing a few pieces here and there ;)

Tory Burch's Coyfish Beach Tote Adds Zen on Hot Day: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

I hope you all had a wonderful July 4th weekend, though I heard the heatwave made it rather unbearable to be outside. I celebrated my first in Mexico (at the Excellence Playa Mujeres Hotel -- worth it for the spa alone!) drinking tequila boom boom, eating cotton candy and celebrating the beachside union of two close friends. My beach bag of choice for the week was Tory Burch’s Tory Beach Tote in a bold prink/yellow/brown print from 2008. The 2010 version has coyfish print that’s so very oceanic and zen. And, given the record 100+ temperature we’re experiencing in NYC today, a little zen (and some water!!) is what a gal needs.

What is your go to beach tote this summer?

Dear Bagistas,

My favorite former boss (and mentor) Karen Robinovitz has been causing waves in the beauty world with her empowering beauty brand, Purple Lab. Purple Lab wants you to remember when makeup used to be playful and fun, so they launched a Look Book starring fashion and beauty bloggers and friends. The Look Book is meant to inspire women to experiment with beauty tips and tricks, while creating an effortless online shopping experience.

To celebrate the Look Book launch, Purple Lab is launching a contest, inviting consumers to recreate and upload looks inspired by the Look Book, on Purple Lab's Facebook fan page for a chance to win Purple Lab beauty products. The contest will run through July 3, 2010.

I love supporting amazing women like Karen, especially when it's an amazing women who shared so much with me when I was starting out in this industry. Remember ladies, share the knowledge, share the love and help your fellow power woman. OK, that was my public service announcement for the day. :-)

Win a Handbag, Coach Pierre Le-Tan Umbrella Tote: PAMELA PEKERMAN

Dear Bagistas,

As a thank you to all of you for following my bag-a-licios life - literally - I'm going to be offering exciting handbag giveaways every month via Twitter. Since the summer sun is at our door, I figured you could use a fabulous beach tote.

Nothing says classic, summer-time Americana like a beach tote from Coach and this season, the company has tapped artist Pierre Le-Tan (known for his poetic illustrations and expressive use of color) to create several unique offerings. The collection features a series of whimsical seashore illustrations that will adorn the facades of various beach totes and accessories. My personal favorite is the Umbrella Tote which has a sketch of a yellow and white umbrella stuck in the sand and the signature Coach turnlock closure. There is something childlike and free about Le-Tan’s designs that beckons us all to remember a simpler time – pre 2001, pre recession, heck pre 1000 TV channels! Embrace the need for simple, quite time in the sun, sand and at see. Coach’s Pierre Le-Tan Umbrella Tote retails for $268, but YOU CAN WIN IT.
